Installation
Only install the EZ85 adapter kit when the engine is cold and the ignition is turned off!
  1. Plug the EZ85 Adapter connectors between the injector connections. Please note: 12V for the EZ85 are taken from the first channel (red and magenta wires). If this channel is unplugged, the yellow wire may be used to power the adapter.
  2. Secure the EZ85 Adapter electronics unit in a cool, dry place away from the exhaust system and radiator.
  3. Connect the ground wire of the EZ85 Adapter to the negative terminal of the battery or to a ground connection point on the car body. Make sure the electrical connection is secure.
  4. Turn on the ignition. If none of the LEDs light up on the EZ85 Adapter, you need to connect the yellow wire to the +12V available at the ignition switch.
  5. If your car has an oxygen (lambda) sensor in the exhaust:
    1. Turn on the ignition
    2. Select Auto mode by pressing the appropriate button on the EZ85 Adapter
    3. Start the Engine
    4. The EZ85 Adapter will automatically adjust to the current fuel mixture.
  6. If your car does not have an oxygen (lambda) sensor in the exhaust:
    1. Turn on the ignition
    2. Select the current fuel (Gasoline, E70, E85) by pressing the appropriate button on the EZ85 Adapter
    3. Start the Engine
  7. The settings are stored until you change them next even after the car has been turned off.
  8. Please note: some trip computers may show incorrect fuel consumption data after installation of the EZ85.
  9. Please see this page for wiring diagrams.

User Menu

The following modes are selected sequentially by pressing the mode button:

  1. Red LED – Gasoline
  2. Blue LED – E70 fuel (Winter blend)
  3. Yellow LED – E85 fuel (Summer blend)
  4. Green LED – Automatic mode (default)

If your ECU can handle corrections from the oxygen (lambda) sensor, you can set the EZ85 Adapter to Automatic mode and it will adjust intelligently based on the fuel it detects in the line.

If your ECU cannot handle corrections from the oxygen (lambda) sensor, you will need to manually select the current fuel type. There are generally two available blends of ethanol fuel:

  1. E85 (summer blend) : 85% ethanol + 15% gasoline
  2. E70 (winter blend) : 70% ethanol + 30% gasoline

Cold Start Function

If the ambient temperature is less than 59˚F (+15˚C)

  1. Turn on the ignition
  2. Wait at least 5 seconds (this will activate the cold start function)
  3. Start the engine

If the ambient temperature is more than 59˚F (+15˚C)

  1. Turn on the ignition
  2. Start the engine without pausing

The cold start function may be disabled from the service menu.

Service menu

To enter the service menu:

  1. Press and hold the button for at least 5 seconds
  2. When all of the LEDs turn on, release the button

Status indication in the service menu:

  • The Blue LED blinks the same number of times as the current service menu item (once for item 1, twice for item 2, etc.)
  • The Yellow LED blinks once for each step up to the current value of the current service menu item (once for 1 step, twice for 2 steps, etc.)

Working with the service menu:

  • Pressing the button cycles to the next service menu item, wrapping around the list.
  • To change the value of the current service menu item:
  1. Hold the button for at least 5 seconds
  2. Keep holding the button
  3. All of the LEDs will start blinking fast, pause for 2 seconds, and then blink once per second.
  4. For every blink the value of the current service menu item increases by one step from the beginning to the end of its range.
  5. Count the blinks until their number reaches the value you want to set
  6. Release the button
  7. The value will be stored in memory

To exit the service menu:

  1. Turn the ignition off
